Into the West is not only a painting/artwork but also a meditation object, where the snakes are the guardians that protect your body during your journey. To do this, keep your attention focused on the vanishing point in the center for an extended period and let your thoughts wander without stressing.

Faith

In this way, another artwork was created, namely Faith, which then served as the impetus for a much larger project: Two Roads, about which you can read a lot on this website.

The music from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ played an important role during the creation of this artwork. We noticed that every time Marianne entered my workspace to check on the progress, the very last track of the soundtrack was playing: Into the West, by Howard Shore and Annie Lennox.

In the painting, you see these cliffs symbolically depicted as the Egyptian snakes with the sun in between.

Originally, this painting was a commission. When it was finished and we wanted to make an appointment to deliver it to the clients, this appointment was postponed four times. “Coincidentally,” we spoke with medium Loes van Loon during an evening where she was the guest speaker, and we showed her the painting. Without knowing this background, she said: “That’s for you, right? It’s a gift for you. Don’t get rid of it!”

So afterwards we canceled the appointment and kept this painting. By the way, I had put in ten times the amount of time that the agreed price would justify.
